The recent CPHR event was a thought-provoking gathering that emphasized the evolving nature of work and the values that should guide us through this transformation. The day began with a Smudging Ceremony led by Elder Charles Sewell “Chuck,” grounding participants in the significance of cultural traditions, respect, reconciliation, and the importance of sharing space and engaging in conversation.
Below we’ve shared a a few quotes from the event that have stuck with us:
“Adoption rate for AI is predicted to be 5 years.” – Yves Boudreau, Career Beacon
The rapid integration of artificial intelligence into recruitment and various industries is accelerating at an incredible pace. At the same time, Yves highlighted that 67% of organizations adopt new technology without transforming the way they work.
What did we take from this talk? As we embrace AI, it’s essential to consider how it can genuinely improve efficiency, collaboration, and employee engagement. Are we rethinking our workflows and communication styles in tandem with these technological advancements? How can organizations ensure that technology serves as a tool for connection rather than a barrier to authentic interaction?
“Value is in the questions that arrive from the answers (data).” – Jason Urquhart, HUB International on Data Analytics
This insight emphasizes that the most impactful discoveries often stem from the questions we ask. As organizations increasingly rely on data analytics, we should be asking ourselves:
Are we prioritizing data for its own sake or are we using it to foster deeper understanding and connection within our teams and to improve our client experience?
“Protecting all individuals is allyship.” – Torin Ellis, The Torin Ellis Brand
This talk highlighted our collective responsibility to ensure everyone feels safe and valued. He urged us to ask, “What are you doing to support D&I initiatives in your organization?” to every member of your organization.
Torin also shared the powerful example of the football huddle, invented in 1892 by Paul Hubbard, a Deaf quarterback at Gallaudet University. To prevent opposing teams from interpreting their hand signals, Hubbard created a tight circle for private communication. This historical example of innovation through diversity serves as a reminder of the power of inclusive practices. It encourages us to ask: How can we create spaces that celebrate diverse perspectives?
“There’s magic in everyone, allow yourself to see it.” – Erika Casupanan, First Canadian Winner of Survivor + Media Personality + Host + Storyteller
Erika’s powerful message invites us to recognize the unique strengths and talents that each individual brings to the table. As we cultivate authentic work environments, we should reflect on:
- How can we create opportunities for everyone to showcase their “magic”?
- What steps can we take to ensure that all voices are heard and valued in our organizations?
“How do you want us to work together?” – Erika Casupanan, First Canadian Winner of Survivor + Media Personality + Host + Storyteller
This question challenges traditional leadership models and encourages open dialogue about collaboration. It prompts us to consider: Are we truly engaging with our teams to understand their preferred working styles? How can we foster a culture of collaboration that encourages individuals to express their needs and contribute fully?
Wrapping Up
As we navigate the future of work, we should keep these discussions alive. We’d love to know if any of these quotes resonate with you? How do you see the balance between technology and human connection evolving in your workplace?
